My Dog Eats Better than Me
Ate Ball’s ♥ Rate > My ♥ Rate
You really start to reevaluate life when you realize your puppy pigs out on Royal Canin kibbles, Rachel Ray treats, and Mandarin oranges on the regular while your feasts consist of greasy pork tenderloins and french fries from Sonic. Then even more scrutiny becomes imminent when you tally how many times you deny his pleas for your grub for fear that it’s too unhealthy for his diet and may result in irreversible & quite costly health risks. Wondering what this means for your diet instead and how you value your (possibly deteriorating) immune system should, therefore, take precedence as adjustments must occur. And what better way to start than at the dawn of a New Year!?
Beets & Bananas are Best 4 Breakfast
Flushing away 2018 in order to let the goodness of 2019 flow seemed impossible until I stumbled upon this smoothie recipe from one of my favorite foodies - Fully Raw with Kristina. It’s her most powerful cleansing and detoxifying smoothie featuring beets (obviously), kale, celery, and a few other ingredients sure to give your “bowels a run” for their money (get it?)! LOL
Next up, we have this Tropical Smoothie Cafe inspired flatbread wrap and as much as I’d like to take creative credit for this, I simply cannot! Below is the story of how I discovered this delicacy!
Therefore, in an attempt to flatter them with the slightest bit of imitation, I created my own concoction to pair with my beet smoothie.
1 BANANA (SLICED)
1 GRANOLA BAR (CRUSHED IN FOOD PROCESSOR)
4 TBSP ALMOND BUTTER
2 TBSP HONEY
1 SLICE FLATBREAD
After slicing, dicing, and getting your honey ready to drizzle, go ahead and smear your almond butter inside the flatbread. Next, sprinkle on the granola, place the bananas inside, and top it with honey. In the meantime, get your skillet ready (no oil needed) and warm your folded flatbread on both sides for around 10 mins (5 mins per side) on Med-Low heat. Lastly, open wide and bon appetit!
Tex-Mex Pita Pizza (non-vegan)
Forks Over Knives (popular vegan recipe app) takes the cake on supplying light yet healthy meals perfect for lunch, hence my haste to try their southwestern inspired pita-bread pizza (click here for the recipe).
For you part-time vegans out there, be sure to add a few refried pinto beans, some shredded cheese, sliced black olives, a dollop of sour cream, and a dash of taco seasoning to up the appetizing ante a bit! Thank me later!
Bedtime Broccoli and Cauliflower Buddha Bowl
Oh She Glows’ vegan app is probably the most aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly app I’ve ever seen - not to mention how its delicious recipes make it even better. Unfortunately, there’s always room for disappointment, and this Roasted Buddha Bowl was nothing short.
Now the roasted veggies and chickpeas were savory with a crunchiness folks crave, yet the tangy stench of the cashew/chickpea dressing was just too much to bear. I’m unsure if the tahini was the culprit or the nutritional yeast, but either way, me nor the baby brother went back for seconds.
Despite dinner being a slight blunder, I’m pretty darn sure I’m off to a great start this year. By taking care of not only my puppy, but me too, we are surely on our way to lower cholesterol levels, better heart rates, and thighs that would make Serena Williams as green as her tennis ball!
